Natural Stone Bathrooms in Mallorca

Stone is the material the island is built from, and a bathroom in natural stone belongs here in a way that nothing from a factory quite does. It is also the surface that asks the most of the room, of the company laying it and of the person living with it. Describe the bathroom and the stone you have in mind, and we pass the request to bathroom renovation companies near you that work in it.

What stone brings, and what it wants back

No two pieces of natural stone are the same, and that is the point: a limestone floor has a depth and a warmth under bare feet that porcelain imitates and does not reach, and a travertine wall has a texture that changes with the light through the day. In a finca or a village house it reads as part of the building. In a modern villa it is the material that stops the room feeling like a showroom.

What it wants back is care and a good substrate. Most stone is porous to some degree and is sealed before use and again over the years; some stones dislike acidic cleaners; all of them are heavy and need a floor and a wall built to carry them. In a shower the stone is cut to form the fall, which means small pieces on the floor, and the joints between them are where water tries to go, so the waterproofing under the stone is not optional.

A company that works in stone will say all of this before quoting. If it does not, ask.

Where the stone goes

Floors

The place stone earns its keep: warm, solid, ageing well. Chosen with a finish that grips when wet, and cut small enough in the shower to form the fall.

Walls and shower areas

Slabs on the walls, the same stone in the shower, the room reading as one material. The wall has to carry the weight, and the wet area under it has to be waterproofed.

Vanity tops and basins

A stone top on a vanity, or a basin carved from the block. The details that make a stone bathroom read as bespoke rather than tiled.

What a natural stone request usually covers

  • The stone: which one, from where, in which finish
  • The substrate made sound and true enough to carry it
  • Waterproofing in the wet area under the stone
  • Floor stone laid, with the shower area cut and laid to a fall
  • Wall stone fixed, with the edges, corners and returns detailed
  • Sealing before use, and instructions for the years after
  • Vanity top, basin or shelves cut from the same material, where wanted
  • Making good where stone meets glass, fittings and paint

Stone, marble, or something that looks like it

Marble is a natural stone with its own page, because its veining and its care put it at the top of the market and in a category of its own. Limestone, travertine and the island’s own sandstone are the quieter stones: warmer, less formal, more forgiving of a bathroom that is used every day.

Then there is porcelain made to look like stone, which is honest about what it is and does the job of a floor without the sealing and the care. Many bathrooms here use real stone where it is seen and touched – the floor, the vanity top – and stone-look porcelain in the shower where the water is. Ask for the room to be priced both ways; the difference is real information.

How your request reaches a company

Mallorca Bathrooms is a comparison service. A request for a natural stone bathroom goes to the bathroom renovation companies on our list; they quote the work and carry it out, and any agreement is between you and the company you pick.

  1. 01

    Describe the job

Tell us the property, roughly what you want and where it is. Photographs and a rough plan help, though neither is required.

  2. 02

    We match it

The request goes to companies that work in your area and take on this kind of job at this size.

  3. 03

    They quote you

Each company contacts you directly with its own price, timing and approach. We do not set any of it.

  4. 04

    You compare and choose

Put the quotes side by side and take the one you want, or none of them. Using the site costs you nothing.

Is natural stone practical in a bathroom?

Yes, with two conditions: it is sealed and cared for as the stone company instructs, and the wet area under it is waterproofed like any other. Stone has been used in bathrooms for a very long time; what fails is not the stone but the work around it.

Which stone for a shower floor?

One with a finish that grips when wet – honed or textured rather than polished – cut small enough to lay to a fall. The company will say which of the stones you like can do that job and which should stay on the walls.

How often does it need sealing?

That depends on the stone, the sealer and the use, and the honest answer comes from whoever lays it: ask for written care instructions with the quote. It is not a heavy job, but it is one that has to happen.

Can the same stone be used in the kitchen?

Often, and a house that uses one stone through kitchen and bathrooms reads as designed rather than assembled. The kitchen side has its own site in this network; the bathroom side is here.
