Bathroom Renovation FAQ
The questions that arrive before the request does, in two halves: how this site works, and how a bathroom renovation on the island works. If yours is not here, the contact page is.
What does Mallorca Bathrooms actually do?
It matches a bathroom project with local companies that fit it. You describe the room once; the request goes to bathroom renovation companies that work in your area and take on that kind of job; each one quotes you directly. We do no bathroom work ourselves.
Does it cost anything to use?
Nothing, and sending a request does not commit you to anything. You compare the quotes and choose one or none.
How many companies will contact me?
Several – the ones on the list that fit the project and the area. Not every company takes every job, so the number varies, and a project in a small village may draw fewer than one in Palma.
Do you take a commission?
We do not take a cut of your project, and no company pays to be put in front of you before you have chosen it.
Can I contact you by phone or WhatsApp?
Not at the moment. The form is the route for a new project; email for an existing request or a question. Both are answered by a person.
I am not on the island – can I still use the site?
Yes, and most people who use it are not. A request can be made from anywhere with photographs and a plan, and the companies are used to owners who are abroad.
How long does a bathroom renovation take?
The work in the room is usually two to four weeks; the wait before it, for materials that reach the island by sea, is often longer. A bath-to-shower conversion is shorter; a wet room or a full rebuild of the floor is longer. Plan from the delivery date backwards.
What is the difference between a wet room and a walk-in shower?
A walk-in shower is a shower area with a tray or a built floor and glass on one or two sides, inside a bathroom whose floor stays dry. A wet room is a bathroom whose whole floor is the shower. Many rooms sit between the two, and both have their own pages.
What does waterproofing involve?
A membrane applied to the substrate across the wet area and up the walls before the finish, detailed at every corner, threshold, drain and pipe. It is the part of a bathroom you never see again and the part that decides whether it lasts.
Is microcement suitable for a bathroom?
On a sound substrate with the waterproofing under it and an applicator who has done bathrooms, yes – including the shower, with a finish chosen for grip. Over a damp wall or failed tiles, no finish is; the problem underneath is the job.
Is natural stone practical in a bathroom?
With the right stone, the right finish and the sealing and care the stone company sets out, yes. What fails is not the stone but the work around it.
Can several bathrooms be renovated at once?
Yes, and often better together: one design, one company on site once, one delivery. The multiple-bathrooms page explains what changes.
How should a renovation be run while I live abroad?
With a written specification before the work starts, photographs at the stages you cannot see afterwards, one point of contact, and a finish date with a margin before you arrive. There is a guide for exactly this.
How much does a bathroom renovation cost on Mallorca?
It depends on what is under the floor as much as on what is on it, which is why the cost guide sets out the variables rather than a number. A company that has seen the room gives a quote; a page gives a range at most.
