What is in a minimalist bathroom
The list is short on purpose.
- One material: microcement, or one large-format porcelain, or one stone, on every surface including the shower floor
- A wet room or a walk-in with a linear drain and a single frameless panel
- A vanity that is a shelf or a slab, with the basin integrated and the storage behind a flush door or the mirror
- A wall-hung toilet on a concealed frame, the flush plate the same colour as the wall
- Taps and shower outlets from the wall, the valve concealed, one finish
- Light from a hidden strip, at the mirror and in the shower; no visible fitting
- Nothing on the vanity, nothing on the floor, one towel
Why it costs what it costs
A minimalist bathroom moves everything into the wall: the cistern, the valve, the pipework, the storage, the light. Each of those is a frame or a cable or a box that has to be in place at first fix and has to be exactly where the finished surface needs it, because the finished surface has no trim to absorb a mistake. The one material has to be laid perfectly, because there is nothing else to look at. And the storage that is not on show still has to exist, which means joinery behind flush doors.
